This contemporary city wedding from last Summer, really is a breath of fresh air. I’m a huge fan of colour and the fresh & bright tones at this wedding definitely made the most of uber cool boutique wedding venue, Fazeley Studios. Hazel & James are such a sweet, down to earth couple and I had a lovely time with them and their guests in Birmingham. I first met Hazel when she was a bridesmaid for Stacy, who’s wedding I shot back in 2013. It’s always lovely to see past clients again and it’s even nicer when a past bride is a bridesmaid on the day.
The girls looked stunning in their mismatched pastel bridesmaids dresses, giving the wedding a very unique & glamorous feel. Hazel’s Damask wedding gown by Jenny Packham looked like it was made for her. Jeni, the lovely hairstylist, created a romantic up-do with a gorgeous braid, to suit the dress. Pretty heels from Rachel Simpson, a soft handmade Jannie Baltzer veil and her grandmother’s cuff bracelet completed Hazel’s look. It was very special that Hazel’s Gran could make it to the wedding and I loved watching the two of them together – you could clearly see the wonderful bond they have! The wedding car was Hazel’s Granddad’s old Volvo and when it arrived at Fazeley, it looked effortlessly cool.
Flowers played an important part in the wedding styling, transforming the blank canvas that is The Winter Garden with colourful bouquets tied to white wooden ceremony chairs, a gorgeous hanging faux flower & ribbon backdrop and a beautiful centrepiece arrangement at the front of the room. Hazel’s cascading bridal bouquet was breath-taking and incorporated all the bridesmaids dress colours, which tied everything together beautifully.
I fell in love with the striking, powder blue front doors at Fazeley Studios the moment I arrived and they came in very handy as a colourful backdrop during the couple portrait session. They also matched the wedding colour scheme perfectly! I don’t shoot that many city weddings, so it was a real treat doing couple portraits in such an industrial, gritty setting.
So without further ado, here are a few of my favourites from the day. Hazel & James, thanks for having me, it was lovely seeing you again and capturing the day for you.
Enjoy!
