I’m kicking off the New Year with this gorgeous Mediterranean island wedding I shot last September in Malta. Grace & Declan live in Australia but decided to tie the knot in Malta – the perfect setting if you’re looking for a relaxed, rustic island wedding with pretty much guaranteed good weather! The wedding was planned & coordinated to perfection by the very lovely Martina and her assistant Laetitia from I Do Weddings Malta and I can honestly say it was a real pleasure working with these talented and super fun ladies! This was our second visit to Malta and I thoroughly enjoyed it. You can see some of my Malta travel photography, featured on B.LOVED blog here. Two days after the wedding we did a post-wedding shoot for Grace & Declan on Malta’s more rural, sister island – Gozo. With it’s winding little dust roads, prickly pears and gorgeous salt pans, Gozo created a very unique backdrop for the shoot. Keep your eyes peeled – I’ll be blogging that shoot later this week.
Grace & Declan tied the knot at a quaint little church in Mellieha on a sweltering day in September. Their guests travelled from all over the world to enjoy their wedding & some holiday time in Malta with them. I’m a big fan of destination weddings because it’s such a great way of making the most of a celebration that usually only lasts one day. A weekend wedding celebration is much more fun! ;-)

After the service, we drove to the cliffs of Għajn Tuffieħa overlooking Golden Sands Bay for some couple portraits and thankfully my lovely husband kept the car running and the air-con pumping in between locations! We then drove to Mdina, Malta’s old capital and a breathtaking medieval city – a perfect, romantic backdrop that is very ‘Malta’. Tiny little white sandstone streets, bougainvilleas in bloom and colourful wooden window shutters. The rustic setting contrasted beautifully with Grace’s floaty, island style wedding gown.
Their wedding reception took place at the Hilton Hotel Malta in Portomaso, overlooking the waterfront in St Julian’s. One long dinner table with a view over the ocean created an intimate dinner setting and guests enjoyed their meal by candlelight. The evening ended off with Grace & Declan’s sweet first dance and of course, fireworks in the background. The perfect end to a perfect day.
I have to say an enormous thank you to Martina and her team for looking after myself and Wayne and being so wonderful to work with. Here’s to more weddings together in Malta!
Grace & Declan, thank you for inviting us to capture your destination wedding in Malta. I wish you all the love and happiness in the world.
