Last year, hubby and myself decided to head back to the US for our second road-trip. As much as I love a relaxing beach holiday, an amazing road-trip around the US is an incredible experience – almost like exploring a few small countries all rolled into one, with each state special in their own way. For our honeymoon back in 2010 we did Route 66 and California, so this time around we decided to focus on South East USA and it was nothing short of mind blowing. You can watch as many TV shows as you like, but setting foot in places like Key West, soaking up the atmosphere, sampling the local food and experiencing it all first hand, is a once in a lifetime experience. Needless to say, I was in travel photography heaven.
We flew into Tampa and from there, Florida was our oyster! ;-) Tampa, Miami, Key West and Pensacola were just a few of the amazing cities we visited. Highlights from the Florida leg of our road-trip included the gorgeous white sandy beaches (especially Siesta Beach in Sarasota & St Pete’s Beach, Tampa), beautiful art deco hotels in South Beach, Miami and the renowned “island lifestyle” in Key West with it’s colorful houses, incredible food and live music while you soak up one of the most gorgeous sunsets you will ever see.
This blog post focuses on Florida only. Still to come: New Orleans, Memphis, Nashville and Charleston, where their Southern charm won us over pretty quickly and we ate some of the best BBQ food I’ve ever had (and that says a lot coming from a South African).
