So far, 2013 has been nothing short of amazing! It’s only March and I feel incredibly blessed to have so many things to be very excited about this year: amazing weddings & bridal shoots in the UK & abroad, lots of personal travel and lovely features for me and my clients.
One of the things I’m most excited about & looking forward to, is The Editorial Wedding workshop – launched yesterday by myself & the very fabulous Gaby from SouthBound Bride. Our first workshop will be taking place on April 9th in London and will be a wonderful opportunity for photographers to learn how to shoot weddings & other shoots in an editorial way and then using those images to help grow & market their photography business.
- How to add an editorial element to your wedding photography, making the most of design, details and context.
- Which images to submit for publication, and which to save for your portfolio or for the couple’s album.
- Differences between blog and magazine submission and publication.
- Where to submit your work, and how to give yourself the best chance of success.
- Common mistakes and how not to make them.
- How to network and build your profile so that editors find you.
- How to make the most out of publication and use it to build your brand.
- A styled shoot.
With a solid background in publishing & wedding blogging, Gaby has a lot of ‘insider info’ to share with photographer. In her own words:
” Many photographers take beautiful pictures, and many want to promote their business through publication both in print and online, but not all know how to go about doing this. With competition growing each year in the industry, this is the knowledge I have seen take photographers to the next level, strengthening individual brands and creating international opportunities. As an editor, I see the mistakes made and opportunities missed every day, but I want my photographer friends to make their businesses everything they can be!”
Creating strong editorial images to help your photography stand out & increase the likelihood of a feature is the first step in the cycle and this is where I come in! ;-) As a professional wedding photographer (with a background in marketing) I have found the use of press features to be a very powerful marketing tool for my own business, and I will be sharing my own experience & explain how I would shoot certain elements of a wedding day & styled shoot, to increase the chances of publication.
The day itself will also include a styled shoot (to illustrate what the workshop is all about), and this will be styled by the very talented Louise from b.loved weddings. Photographers will get an opportunity to photograph separate styled areas and I’m looking forward to sharing how I would shoot certain elements to create images with an editorial feature in mind. There will also be a chance to ask lots of questions, chat to other photographers and everyone will leave with a ‘cheat sheet’ guide to UK and international publications for whenever they have images ready to submit.
If you’d like a bit more information & a space (limited so book asap) on the workshop – head over to The Editorial Wedding website and make sure you follow us on Facebook & Twitter for updates closer to the day.
Look forward to seeing you there!
Anneli & Gaby
